Lillie Looses a Tooth

Lillie lost her first tooth on May 26th. It was crazy to have my first child old enough to lose a tooth, but now to have my second child loosing teeth makes me feel really old. Lillie loved having a loose tooth and loves it even more now that she is a toothless wonder. She now keeps a very close eye on her other teeth, just waiting for them to loosen up.

Memorial Day Weekend

Over Memorial Day we decided to have a "Camp In". The girls got out their sleeping bags and we told ghost stories (the girls told some pretty scary ones:), and we roasted marshmallows in the fire place and made smores.

On Memorial Day we went up to the mountains. We went to a great park in Valle Cruisis (our favorite spot in North Carolina) to eat lunch and of course we visited the Mast General Store where we loaded up on 10 pounds of candy and I got some sweet new Keens. I always end up getting new shoes when we go to that store. Lucky Me!!

Strawberry Picking

One of my favorite things to do in North Carolina is go and pick fresh fruit. Strawberries and Blueberries are our favorites. The month of May brought about Strawberry picking season so a strawberry picking we went. Kim and I decided to go after school one day so Jaynie and Jane could go with us and I thought it would take us forever, but I was amazed at how fast we filled five gallon sized buckets with strawberries. I guess it's true what they say, "many hands makes work light."

The fruits of our labors.

Yummy Freezer Strawberry Jam

Strawberry Pie

Strawberry Shortcake

Plus we have lots of frozen strawberries for shakes!! Gotta love strawberries!

Playing in the Rain

We have had a really wet spring here in North Carolina and finding enough indoor activities for four kids can get pretty hard after a while, so on several occasions we decided to just play out in the rain. It is now one of the girls favorite things to do. Addie especially loves puddles, which can be a challenge when we are not supposed to be playing in the rain, like on Sunday morning.

The Life of a Butterfly (or moth in our case)

This spring the girls were constantly finding caterpillars and wanting to keep them in jars. I hate to do this because they always die and we never get to see them turn into a butterfly, but I told them they could keep just one. Luckily this time we got to watch the whole life cycle. We watched him make his cocoon and then the day I decided that he must be dead inside there He came out. We put his jar on the table out back so that he could fly away. Lillie tried to help him out and probably hurt his wings because he never really flew away. He hung out on the table for a long time and then who knows what happened to him. The girls are sure he flew away eventually. Jaynie our super smart first grader said his wings have to dry for a really long time before they fly away, so maybe. I guess this science lesson paid off.

The brown blog is our moth. In the Jar you can kind of see his cocoon. He was apparently a tent caterpillar.
